Adult Foster Care of the North Shore Awarded the Top Three Year Accreditation
Adult Foster Care of the North Shore (AFCNS) has been awarded the top three year accreditation by the commission (CARF) that reviews all such agencies in Massachusetts and many other states. AFCNS takes pride in receiving this high level of accreditation. AFCNS is based in Gloucester and serves all of northeast Massachusetts.

What is Adult Foster Care?
Adult Foster Care is a MassHealth program where a qualified caregiver (a family member or friend) receives monthly payment and support for providing in-home care for a person with a disability or chronic illness. The care recipient lives in the home of the caregiver and receives assistance with at least one daily living activity (bathing, dressing, walking, toileting, or eating). The care recipient must have a MassHealth Standard or equivalent plan and be at least 16 years old.
EXAMPLES OF USAGE:
- An adult child cares for an aging parent with dementia.
- A person with a disability moves in with a non-related friend or caregiver.
