Cape Ann Art Haven fosters the creative spirit for youth in summer programs

Cape Ann Art Haven is ready to launch its summer 2025 slate of activities with new locations and new programs in its mission to meet the needs of all local young artists and their families.

Art Haven will offer its In Studio program at 20 Maplewood Ave. in Gloucester from June 30 to Aug. 25. For nine weeks, the popular In Studio program will feature favorite offerings like Fashion Week and Tie Dye, alongside new concepts like Candyland and Mythical Monsters. The program runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Additionally, Art Haven will offer two summer programs outside the studio.

For four weeks, “Action Art” will take place Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at Lanesville Community Center in Gloucester. Action Art will be offered the weeks of July 7, July 14, July 28 and Aug. 11.

“Action Art is designed to keep kids moving. Whether they are making huge paintings with big arm movements, or playing art games as characters they’ve created, kids will not be at their desks,” according to a program statement.

In another partnership with the Rocky Neck Art Colony, a new program will run three weeks at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center. The topics in these classes will be inspired by the seaside surroundings, and will include visits from Rocky Neck member artists. This program will run Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to noon, the weeks of July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18.

Free art-making activities will be available from Cape Ann Art Haven at the weekly farmers market at Burnham’s Field, as well as at other community events throughout the summer.

“Art is a universal language. It allows children to express themselves without words, while supporting mental wellness and academic growth,” according to the nonprofit’s mission statement.
