Trident Gallery is pleased to present Nest, a third annual partnership with the Museum of American Bird Art at Mass Audubon to present a program of visual and performance art with a natural history theme. This year's program explores bird nests as wondrous natural objects, as emblems of shelter, and as the monuments of crucial junctures in the cycle of life and death. On view from January 30 through March 6 will be six prints from John James Audubon's Birds of America and Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America; a painting by Audubon's associate and Massachusetts native Isaac Sprague; a remarkable series of photographs of nests by California artist and author Sharon Beals; photographs by Winston Swift Boyer and Nadine Boughton; and a drawing by Gabrielle Barzaghi. Public gallery hours during Nest are Saturday 10–7; Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday 10–5. On Saturday, February 6th, at 7:00pm, an evening of performance art will develop the exploration and invite public participation. On Saturday, February 13th, 5–7pm, the gallery will host a public wine and cheese reception to celebrate the exhibition. During Nest: The Performances on February 6, cellist Kristen Miller and dancer Sarah Slifer Swift will present a new duet, Kate Tarlow Morgan will create a performance environment, and other contributors will share poetry and movement. The evening will begin with the communal construction of a nest in the gallery. The public is invited to bring and add to the nest an object, drawing, or words which answer the question, What makes you feel safe? Following the performances, the public is invited to remain for light refreshments and conversation. Nest: The Performances is a production of the Trident Live Art Series, directed by Sarah Slifer Swift and supported by Trident Gallery and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Admission is free. A $10 suggested donation compensates the artists. Seating is limited. Guests may reserve seats by visiting or calling the gallery, by se
