Saturday’s Pourings include: Kathleen’s Personal Favorites from MS Walker.
Vietti Roero Arneis, Piedmont, It., 2020, Alc. 13%, Varietals: Arneis, the star white grape of Piedmont, Tasting: Straw yellow color with fresh floral, citrus and melon aromas with hints of almond. Dry, medium-bodied wine with crisp acidity. Well-balanced, elegant with good complexity and a lingering finish. A white that wants fish, oysters and seafood. Pairs Well: Great as an aperitif with light hors d’oeuvres, crudités, seafood, light soups, simply prepared veal, pork, chicken and creamy cheese…..Kathleen…our favorite at-home white, great pairing with “green foods” … $24.99
Abazzia di Novacella Gruner Veltliner, Trentino-Alto Adige, Northern It , 2020, Alc. 13.8%
Varietals: Gruner Veltliner, Tasting: Fresh and linear, this dazzling white has aromas of ripe white stone fruit, wild alpine herb and the barest hint of graphite. Tangy and bright, the dry palate offers apple, pear and citrus alongside crisp acidity. A hint of flinty mineral marks the close. Pairs Well: pasta, shellfish, mature &hard cheese, lean fish, cured meats. Ratings: Wine Enthusiast 92pts. Kathleen …dates from 11th C., the only Gruner grown in Italy, on the list at Tonno, Gloucester, so my favorite white to order out…. $22.99
Lagler Riesling Smaragd, Niederosterreich, Wachau, Austria, 2020, Alc. 14.5%
Varietals: Austrian Riesling Tasting: Wonderfully ripe notions of apricot and fleshy Mirabelle plum on the nose have a tantalizing grapefruit and lime zestiness. The palate is rounded and concentrated and imbued with almost tropical overtones of passion fruit. There is that pithy, zesty edge, despite mild and ripe acidity. This is a golden elixir of aromatic, expressive fruit with a dry finish. Pairs Well: roasted pork loin, shellfish, spicy food, roast chicken , cured meats Ratings: Wine Enthusiast 94pts …Kathleen… my favorite Austrian Riesling and a special treat-favorite wine to have with dinner at home….$37.99
Bergstrom Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, OR, 2019, Alc. 13%
Varietals: Pinot Noir Tasting: Labeled reserve this is actually an entry-level Pinot from the expansive Bergström lineup. It's a substantial effort that surely includes grapes from a number of first-class sites. It's still young and stiffly tannic, but packed with well-ripened fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry. The tannins kick in and add a firm frame with baking spices and an inviting herbal component around the finish. Pairs Well: Grilled Cornish Game Hens, Ribeye steak, Sautéed Veal Cutlet, deer / venison. Ratings: Robert Parker 94pts, Wine Spectator 93pts, James Suckling 91pts, Wine Enthusiast 92pts….,Vinous 93pts, Kathleen…simply put, my favorite all-time Pinot!…. $47.99
Tasca d’ Almería, Tenuta Regaleali Lamuri, Nero d'Avila, Sicily, 2017, Alc. 13.5%
Varietals: Nero d’Avola, Italian Red, Tasting: Aromas of ripe black-skinned berry mingle with Mediterranean dark spices. On the smooth, juicy palate, hints of tobacco and vanilla accent a fruity core of mature Marasca cherry and crushed blackberry. Polished tannins provide elegant support. Enjoy through 2022. Pairs Well: Rib Roast, Pasta Bolognese, Pan Grilled Lamb Chops, Ratings: Wine Enthusiast 90pts …Kathleen…My go to favorite with pizza, spaghetti and meatball wine…..$22.99
The Pairing red blend, CA, 2016, Alc. 14.5%, Varietals: Blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20%, Merlot, 20%, Cabernet Franc & 10%, Petit Verdot, Tasting: Utterly fascinating nose mixing lifted black fruit, savory green herbs, and dark notes of grilled bread, espresso, and anise. Fills the palate with bright red fruit and black plum. A constant play between sweet and savory. Gentle and dusty tannins lead the way into an incredibly long and precise finish. Mulberry sweetness and a wonderful tension between tannic structure and bright acidity. Balanced and refined, a study in elegance. Pairs Well: Enjoy it with a well-seasoned, roast leg of lamb, grilled lamb chops, Ratings: wine.com 91pts …Kathleen …A big favorite California Bordeaux style blend …great pairing wine for burgers, steak on the grill, topped with blue cheese and black pepper ….$24.99
