Initiated in 2007 by former Goetemann Artist Residency Director, Ruth Mordecai, The Distinguished Artist/Teacher program named for Gordon & Judy Goetemann brings to Rocky Neck an artist with a national reputation. The selected artist, chosen by committee, begins their week-long stay by presenting a lecture at the Cape Ann Museum.
The Goetemann Residency Distinguished Artist/Teacher for August 2022 is Amber Scoon. Amber makes art, books and events. She received her BS from New York University, her MFA in Painting from American University in Italy, and her PhD in Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought from the European Graduate School in Switzerland, where she is currently the John Berger Fellow.
Scoon published Quantum Art: Mimesis, Uncertainty and the Infinite with accolades from John Berger and an introduction by Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Paul Salopek. Scoon has also published Letters to John Berger (co-written with artist Glenn Goldberg) and Conversations and Uncertainty (Atropos Press, Dresden/ New York). Scoon’s latest exhibition is The Abandoned Phone Booth in Florence, MA.
This program is offered in collaboration with the Rocky Neck Art Colony. It is free and open to the public.
