Description
In the days before photography, portraits offered self-expression and family documentation, first to the wealthy colonial settlers, and then increasingly to the middle class. Itinerant artists of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, often self-taught, painted inexpensive portraits for rural families, and worked in a style whose charm still appeals today. Join Site Manager Kristen Weiss for an in-depth look at the folk art portrait collection at Cogswell's Grant, and an exploration of the many families and artists represented in the house. Space is limited, registration is required.
