Catie Curtis

Description

For more than three decades, Catie Curtis has occupied a singular place in American songwriting.

Long before authenticity became a marketing strategy, Curtis was practicing a quieter art: making songs that feel like conversations, invitations into a shared emotional space where listeners recognize themselves.

Over the course of fifteen albums and thousands of performances, her career has taken her from Boston’s vibrant folk scene to stages across the country, including Carnegie Hall and the White House. Yet Curtis’s enduring appeal has never rested on accolades alone. It comes from a rare ability to transform private experience into something shared, creating songs that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant.

As Mary Gauthier says, “Catie Curtis is an artist whose songs unarm me, move me to put down my defenses and just be with them.” Whether performing in a theater, a performing arts center, or an intimate house concert, Curtis creates the feeling of a gathering rather than a show, grounded in warmth, humor, and genuine connection.

Writing with an observant eye and a compassionate heart, Curtis finds meaning in ordinary moments. Mary Chapin Carpenter has praised her “remarkable ability to reveal the spiritual dimensions of ordinary life,” a quality that has made her music a companion through love, loss, family, and change.

Her songs have also contributed to the story of LGBTQ visibility in American culture. In her anthem “Radical,” Curtis sang, “I’m not being radical when I kiss you,” offering listeners a vision of love expressed with confidence and grace. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to telling the truth as she sees it and creating songs that accompany listeners through every season of life.

That commitment to connection extends beyond music. In recent years, Curtis became a licensed marriage and family therapist while continuing to write and perform, an evolution that feels like a natural extension of the work she has always done: listening deeply and helping people find their way toward one another.

Her newest album, C’mon Butterfly, embraces change with curiosity and hope. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Curtis explores themes of transformation, interdependence, and gratitude, finding wisdom in butterflies, changing seasons, and everyday beauty. Three decades into a remarkable career, Catie Curtis continues to do what she has always done best: create songs that illuminate, comfort, and connect.
