Description
Birdwatchers from New England and beyond flock to Cape Ann to participate in the Cape Ann Winter Birding Weekend each February. Cape Ann is known worldwide for its exciting concentrations of winter seabirds, and the Cape AnnChamber of Commerce, working with the Massachusetts Audubon Society, plans a weekend full of events for all levels of birders. Expert speakers offer presentations, exhibitors showcase their programs and products, and artists display their art and give demonstrations at the event headquarters at the Elks at Bass Rocks and at other venues in Gloucester.
On Saturday morning, expert guides lead bus trips to the winter birding hot spots of Cape Ann, and guides stationed at the Elks (itself a hot spot) offer drop-by visitors a chance to see and learn about the winter birds of Cape Ann. In the afternoon Eyes on Owls will be hosting a live owl demonstration!
On Sunday morning, weather permitting, an excursion aboard a whale watching boat offers a chance for closer encounters with many species. Registration is required for the bus and boat trips, and space is limited.
