About Us
The Ipswich Museum was founded in 1890 as the Ipswich Historical Society. Our campus consists of three structures: the 1677 Whipple House , the 1800 Heard House and the reproduction Knight House. Each building is filled with original architectural detail, furnishings and artifacts that give visitors an intimate glimpse into the lives of early Ipswich residents. There are hundreds of stories to discover through the Ipswich Museum. The museum also contains the largest single collection of Arthur Wesley Dow's work, encompassing his broad repertoire of oil paintings, watercolors, photographs, ink wash drawings, wood block prints, and plaster casts.
