Executive Director
In celebration of Cape Ann Plein Air’s (CAPA) 10th anniversary we are seeking a strategic, hands-on Executive Director (ED) to lead our next phase of growth and mission impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED advances CAPA’s mission and oversees fundraising, programs, finance, marketing, events, and community partnerships with support from the Board, contractors and volunteers.
CAPA is a 501(c)(3) and one of the Nation’s premier plein air organizations. Our mission is to highlight Cape Ann’s unique legacy as the birthplace of American plein air through educational demonstrations, exhibitions, festivals, and competitions throughout the year. In collaboration with local arts organizations and businesses, CAPA strengthens community and bolsters the region’s vibrant creative economy. Our capstone event every October features 35 juried artists competing for more than $20,000 in prizes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Partner with the Board to set strategic direction, vision, goals and annual priorities
Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and innovation
Serve as CAPA’s public ambassador with integrity and enthusiasm
Support Board development and facilitate all committees (e.g., Fundraising, Marketing, Events) as an ex-officio member
Fundraising & Development
- Lead development initiatives across major gifts, grants, sponsorships and events to ensure annual fundraising goals are met
- Cultivate relationships with donors, foundations, and community stakeholders
- Oversee development strategy and donor stewardship
- Work with the Board Treasurer to develop and manage annual budgets and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards
- Supervise contractors and develop a strong team
- Ensure programs align with CAPA’s mission and community needs
- Plan and deliver high-quality events, including the annual October competition
- Strengthen partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and cultural institutions
- Maintain a highly visible and collaborative presence in the community
- Proven leadership experience in nonprofits and / or arts administration
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and strategic planning
- Strong financial acumen and operational management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Experience in marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Passion for the arts, arts education, and community development
- Compensation: $30,000 annually
- This is a contracted part-time position
