Date and Time
Saturday Mar 21, 2015
7:30 PM - 7:30 PM EDT
Location
First Congregational Church, Rockport, MA 01966
If you are coming by road, drive north on Route 128 into Gloucester, across the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge, and through two rotaries to the first traffic light at the bottom of the hill. Turn left onto Route 127 and drive 4 miles to Rockport. At the "five corners" intersection, continue slightly right onto Broadway (Route 127A). At the stop sign with a lighthouse in the middle of the road, turn left and then bear left onto Main Street. The First Congregational Church is on the left at the corner of School Street, the next intersection. There is parking on School Street and on Main Street. If you are coming by train, take the Rockport branch of the Newburyport/Rockport line to the end. This commuter rail line originates at Boston's North Station and passes through stations in a dozen communities before reaching Rockport, taking about 70 minutes. The Rockport train station is about a half mile from the church. To walk to the church, follow the "blue diamond" route: turn right on Railroad Avenue upon leaving the station, walk .2 miles to the "five corners" intersection, and turn slightly left onto Broadway. Walk .3 miles and turn left onto School Street (Rockport Public Library on corner). The church is on the left. If you are coming by sea, navigate to Rockport Harbor 42°39'N, 70°36'W. If you have questions about Rockport harbor, contact the harbormasters on VHF channel 9 or by telephone at (978) 546-9589. After disembarking on T-Wharf, walk up Broadway, and turn right on School Street (Rockport Public Library on corner). The church is on the left.

Description
Our favorite left-handed, upside-down guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer returns to Old Sloop Coffeehouse! Dennis "Fly" Amero finds his musical roots deep within the vast genres of the 60's pop revolution. His influences range from Bob Dylan to James Brown to Roy Orbison to Aretha Franklin ... and just about everything in between. Fly will split this bill with John Hall, co-founder of the chart-topping pop-rock band Orleans, co-founder of Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE), and former U.S. Representative for New York state's 19th congressional district. These men both have astonishing musical backgrounds. As a young teenager, Fly was already capturing public attention, performing on the hallowed stages of 1967's Newport Folk Festival with Buddy Guy and Jr. Wells and - from the completely opposite end of the musical spectrum - the notorious Jim Kweskin Jug Band, then featuring Maria and Geoff Muldaur. John Hall was already a songwriter and/or session musician for such artists as Janis Joplin, Seals & Crofts, Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raitt when, in late January 1972, he founded Orleans, which soon became very popular with huge hits in "Dance With Me" (1975) and "Still The One" (1976). Fly and John are both still involved in a variety of musical projects, and are bandmates with Orleans. Coffee, tea, and a variety of delicious (and very popular) home-made baked pie and cake will be sold before and after the concert and at intermission. Tickets for this concert can be purchased in advance for $12 from the coffeehouse web site at oldsloopcoffeehouse.org, at Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport, at The Bookstore in Gloucester, and at coffee hour following worship on March 15. The suggested donation at the door is $14 for adults, $9 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, and $28 for a family.
