Description
On November 16, 1983, a 28-year-old woman was attacked as she was walking home from work in Lowell. An unknown man accosted her and tried to engage her in conversation before forcing her into a nearby yard, where he sexually assaulted her. The following evening, a 23-year-old woman was attacked less than one hundred yards away from the site of the first assault. Dennis Maher was in jail for 19 years, two months and 28 days serving a life sentence for crimes he didn’t commit.
These incidents are not his story, but they are part of his life story.
Learn how the Innocence Project helped change the ending as part of our Build a Better World summer programming. To-date, over 300 inmates have been exonerated by the Innocence Project, 20 of them on death row.
