Description
"Butterflies Are Free" is a quietly moving comedy-drama by Leonard Gershe, directed by Ray Jenness.
It centers around a young blind aspiring singer-songwriter, Don Baker, who is living away from his overly protective mother in a Manhattan apartment for the first time. He develops a relationship with a free-spirited actress, his next-door neighbor. When his pushy Scarsdale mother arrives for a surprise, unwelcome visit, sparks fly between the two women.
The play debuted in 1969 at the Booth Theater in New York City - and, as a successful movie, garnered several Oscar and Golden Globe awards.
