Position Summary:

At the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute we are doing it all – conducting ground-breaking research on the ocean using a platform of genomics; educating underserved youth for careers in biotechnology at the Gloucester Biotechnology Academy; and telling incredible stories to inspire our community of followers to be curious about the endless opportunities from the ocean.
Join our team for a summer internship where you will work as part of the GMGI Communications and Development teams to share our impact across social media and engage with our community via in-person or virtual events. In this role you will hone your skills in social media communication and events management - we want your fresh ideas and creative input! GMGI is celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2023 and this internship will play an important role as we celebrate in style and share broadly our impact and future potential in marine research and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications
- Develop social media content with Communications Associate
- Conduct market research across other similar social media accounts
- Assist in executing planned social media content (including filming, editing and posting) across GMGI channels
- Manage interactions with other social media accounts
Event Logistics
- Work with Development team to implement top-caliber events for donors and the public
- Manage event logistics such as invitations, RSVPs, caterers, equipment rental, registration, etc.
- Organize and prep GMGI materials, handouts and swag needed for events
- Track event attendees in database (Salesforce)
Other Duties
- Assist Development Director in donor prospect research, especially for VIP event guests
- Work on strategic data management projects to track and quantify impact of events

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Coursework in communications, event management, brand account management, or other related fields
- Proficiency and interest in using various social media platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Adobe
- Demonstrated success working as a member of a highly functioning team
- Minimum GPA 3.0
