Castle Hill--Seasonal Museum Interpreter

If so, we want you to join our dedicated and lively team of interpreters! Our interpreters bring the stories of our special places to life for our visitors in meaningful, fun, and relevant ways. We believe that by engaging and exciting our visitors they will feel more connected to our cultural heritage and be inspired to help preserve and protect it for future generations. Currently we are looking for First-Person Interpreters for Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Lead and facilitate up to six interactive tour experiences and participatory activities on site for visitors of all ages, most as a First-Person Interpreter playing a servant or gardener for the Crane family 

  • Welcome and orient visitors, acting as an ambassador for the site and The Trustees 

  • Manage costumes and props used in experiences 

  • Open and close the Great House and any additional outbuildings for daily tours 

  • Follow best practices in collections management, security, and care 

 

Qualifications:? 

  • A background in teaching, museums, customer service, and/or theater preferred 

  • Friendly, active listeners with excellent conversational and public speaking skills 

  • Enjoy engaging visitors through multi-sensory interpretive techniques including storytelling, hands-on activities, and interactive discussion 

  • Willing to take on costumed, first-person characters for many visitor experiences 

  • Flexible and willing to meet the needs and interests of visitors 

  • Able to climb stairs and stand for periods of 2 hours or more at a time
