CHEE-YUN, violin

Since her first public performance at age 8 in her native Seoul, violinist Chee-Yun has enraptured audiences on five continents with her flawless technique, dazzling tone and compelling artistry. Since winning the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1989 and the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1990, she has performed regularly with the world’s foremost orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the London Philharmonic. Her orchestral highlights include a concert with the Seoul Philharmonic conducted by Myung-Whun Chung that was broadcast on national network television, a benefit for UNESCO with the Orchestra of St. Lukes at Avery Fisher Hall, and her tours of the United States with the San Francisco Symphony and Japan with the NHK Symphony. In 2016, Chee-Yun performed as a guest artist for the Secretary General at the United Nations in celebration of Korea’s National Foundation Day and the 25th Anniversary of South Korea joining the UN. Firmly committed to chamber music, Chee-Yun’s seven discs on the Denon label and one on the Naxos label have received exceptional acclaim, and she has been heard frequently on NPR’s Performance Today. Chee-Yun plays the 1669 Francesco Rugeri violin which she has owned since 1991.

“This is a talented instrumentalist, with the kind of high-gloss tone that pulls sensuously at the listener’s ear.” -New York Times

GRISHA GORYACHEV, guitar

Renowned for his extraordinary musical sensitivity and technical virtuosity in both classical and flamenco styles, Grisha Goryachev is one of very few guitarists in the world who is reviving the tradition of solo flamenco guitar in a concert setting that was practiced by legendary flamenco masters such as Ramón Montoya and Sabicas. Instead of merely copying, he creates his own interpretations of these masterpieces, using dynamics and tone colors usually associated with classical guitar. In 2005, Grisha was awarded the prize for Best Performance of Spanish Music at the International Classical Guitar Competition “Julian Arcás” in Spain. Grisha received his Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Eliot Fisk. He has recorded two CDs: Alma Flamenca and Homenaje a Sabicas.

SEROUJ KRADJIAN, piano

Pianist and composer Serouj Kradjian has established himself as a versatile artist whose readiness to break new boundaries and explore different styles has made him an exciting voice on the international music scene. The New York Times has described Juno-award-winning and Grammy-nominated Kradjian’s playing as a “persuasive balance between elegance and spirit.” In addition to orchestral appearances and chamber music performances, his explorations of tango and flamenco music have led to the critically acclaimed recording project Tango Notturnoand the North American tour of Reimagining Flamenco.  He received a Grammy nomination for his 2008 orchestral arrangements of folk songs by Gomidas, Armenia’s national composer, entitled Gomidas Songs. His Trobairitz Ysabella, a song cycle for soprano and orchestra, inspired by medieval women troubadours, was included in the Juno-nominated recording Troubadour and the Nightingale.
