SUMMARY:Winter Birding Speaker Series- Four Seasons of Birding in Rockport
DESCRIPTION:Every season has great birds in Rockport. We will begin the day with a tour a Halibut Point State Park to see what birds are there. It is not unusual to see over two dozen species in an hour's walk.\n\n\n\nWe will return to the Emerson Inn for a presentation where we will focus on the change of seasons\, from the wonderful winter birds on the ocean\, to the spring migrants coming to refuel for their trip farther north or to stay and nest. Martin Ray has contributed his wonderful photos to illustrate the talk. We will have an opportunity to view birds just outside on their great lawn.\n\n\n\nAbout Peter: Peter H. Van Demark lives with his wife Kathleen (Kate) in Rockport\, Massachusetts. He studied geography and cartography and worked for 27 years in Newton\, Massachusetts\, for Caliper Corporation\, which creates geographic analysis and mapping software. He is an avid birder and leads a monthly Beginner Bird Walk in Halibut Point State Park on Cape Ann. He is also a lifelong photographer and has provided photographic documentation for numerous groups. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Martin: Martin Ray came to Gloucester in 1972. In his profession as Landscape Gardener he came to specialize in granite sculpture. He acted in over thirty performances with Theatre in the Pines. He served as the Chairman of the Gloucester Cultural Council for six years prior to becoming a founding Director of the Gloucester Cultural Initiative. He has published two books\, "Cape Ann Narratives of Art in Life" and "Quarry Scrolls\," and since 2013 has posted weekly photo essays in his blog Notes from Halibut Point.
