Begin with conversation\, a short presentation\, and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Center\, then move to the James Center to view the original. \n\n\n\nEmile Gruppe was one of Gloucester's most beloved painters and an important figure in American Impressionism. Gruppe made Gloucester his home in the early 1920s\, drawn by the harbor's ever-changing light\, bustling fishing boats\, and rugged coastline all of which became central themes in his vibrant\, plein air canvases. As founder of the Gloucester School of Painting on Rocky Neck\, he not only created iconic works but also mentored generations of artists\, leaving an indelible mark on Cape Ann's creative community.
